What is a septic system?
A septic system is an onsite wastewater treatment system that processes and purifies household waste (effluent.) Effluent consists of blackwater (toilet wastes) and greywater (kitchen sink, bathtub and laundry wastes.) Where is the Dirty Jobs guy when you need him?
A septic system has two components: a septic tank and a leachfield or a drainfield. Primary treatment occurs in the septic tank where bacteria digest organic materials in the wastewater. The effluent then flows into the drainfield for secondary treatment. Here, bacteria complete the digestion and purification process as the wastewater slowly leaches or infiltrates the soil.
​2. You will need to determine how many bedrooms will be in your new home. The LOCAL INSPECTOR of your jurisdiction will compile perc test results with the number of bedrooms in your home to determine the size of septic tank and the square feet of drain field that you will need to adequately meet the demand.
​​1. You will need a PERCOLATION or PERC TEST. This is a test required by the State of Nebraska which measures the amount of time it takes for soil to absorb water. The perc test must be completed by a licensed professional. Henton Trenching is licensed and can perform a perc test on your property.
3. Septic tanks are installed towards the END OF CONSTRUCTION of your home. Driving heavy equipment on top of your septic system is not recommended.
4. Your septic system is COMPLETE. Once you move in, your just start using the system--showering, toilets, sinks, etc.
